DUOLINGO.
What is
Duolingo?
Duolingo
is a free language learning app created by Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker.
Apart from being available in a web version, this application is also available
in Android, iOS and Windows Phone versions. Duolingo is an application for
learning Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese from English. So, at
least you have to be able to speak English because the language of instruction
used is English. Duolingo was launched on November 30, 2011 and collected a
waiting list of more than 300,000 users. Duolingo was launched to the public on
19 June 2012 and in January 2014 had 25 million users, and had 10 million
active users.
"Play
while learning", was the sentence that best described Duolingo. Using a
mix of audio, visuals as well as questions about the grammar of a language, you
will be taught to remember a new language in a very fun way.
In
2013, Apple selected Duolingo the iPhone App of the Year, the first time this
award has been awarded to an educational app. This application is also awarded
Google Play's "Best of the Best" 2013.
Duolingo
is also preparing an English learning application from Indonesian. In fact,
they are also preparing to learn less popular languages such as Maya and
Latin.
What are
the strengths of Duolingo?
· This application uses a game-like learning method with hearts, levels, and powerful. This application is certainly very useful for the community, especially for people who want to learn foreign languages because the learning system is not boring. Doulingo also uses learning-while-playing methods that are fun and also not boring, with interesting visuals and audio, it can make it easy for us to remember what has been taught.
· With duolingo,
only by opening the application via a cellphone or gadget anytime and anywhere
the user can learn the foreign language he wants. Unlike other language courses
or classes, Duolingo is a free application so users are free to access it
without spending any money.
· Duolingo also
doesn't put advertisements on the app so that its users are not distracted
while studying.
And what
are Duolingo lacks?
· This
application requires an internet connection to access it so it is quite
difficult for some people who do not have an internet connection, such as being
out of signal range or not having internet access.
· Duolingo
also has other languages of instruction, namely Spanish, German, Italian,
Thai, Korean, Japanese, Russian, and even Indonesian, but the language of
instruction does not have all five language materials.
· Colorful
content that makes it less focus for learning.
So the
conclusion of the Duolingo application is:
Duolingo is a foreign language learning application that can help to learn foreign language in a fun way. Packed like the appreance of a 'game' will make you fell at home using this application for a long time. Accompanied by Duo the smart owl, you will always be remined to meet the learning targets that you have set yourself. Apart from learning English, now Duolingo also provide lessens in other foreign languages language including Indonesian.
Duo lingo can develop not only the official language of a country, but also the regional languages or languages of certain tribes in the world and also the language of everyday social interactions that Duolingo can also adopt as an enjoyable learning.
Probably more or less like that for the advantages and disadvantages for the Duolingo app.
